joseph maley foundation

I had the pleasure of treating a young man named Joseph Maley for many years. Joseph had cerebral palsy and was later diagnosed with leukemia. He always brought a smile to everyone he met and while he passed away in 2008, his spirit will always remain with us. To honor his memory, the Joseph Maley Foundation (JMF) was founded to “serve children with all abilities.” It is a wonderful organization that grows stronger each year, and in 2014 it had served more than 4000 children. I am proud to have been a part of Joseph’s life and enthusiastically support the work of the JMF.

indiana hemophelia and thrombosis center

The Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center (IHTC) proudly serves infants, children and adults with bleeding disorders.  Providing comprehensive dental care can be stressful to any patient, however it is particularly challenging to those patients with bleeding disorders.   Partnering with the team of physicians, nutritionists, therapists, nurses and hygienists at IHTC has been part of my strong commitment to the community.  It is my hope that we provide the greatly needed services to those patients with bleeding disorders while bringing to the forefront the daily struggles these patients face.
riley children foundation Riley Children’s Foundation has been consistently named one of the best children’s hospitals in the nation.  The hospital has been an integral part of my career as a teacher at Indiana University. I support the work of the Riley Foundation because of their dedication to pediatric research and their involvement in the community.  Riley Children’s Foundation makes a difference by providing comfort and care to the children of Indiana.

For the past 13 years Dr. Brian Sanders has been the one and only dentist for our children. He is always very caring to each one of our 5 children and never hesitates to take time to talk with us if we have questions or concerns about their dental health. When there has been a concern or challenge he, because of his affiliation with Riley Children's Hospital, has been able to consult with the great wealth of knowledge of his colleagues.  The one thing that sets Dr. Sanders apart from other dentists is that he combines his great knowledge as a dentist with the wisdom that he has gained by being a parent to provide each patient with the very best dental outcome. He gives each patient his best to get them their best. We are so grateful that he is our children's dentist and would not know what to do without him.

Barb and Brian S.

My 2 young boys LOVE Dr. Brian. I love the compassion Dr. Sanders shows my children. It is evident in the way he cares for my boys that he loves his job. He is patient, kind, and just “meets them where they are.” My youngest (at 2 years old) was scared to sit in the big dentist chair. Dr. Brian didn’t push it or make me or him feel bad. He let my son lay on my lap so he could have his teeth checked. My oldest was born with a floppy airway and had some oral sensory issues (now outgrown). Dr. Sanders understood these and worked with my son and he treats my children as people, not the next dental record. He is funny and down to earth. I like that he interacts and communicates not only with me about their dental care, but also my boys. They like going to the dentist to see Dr. Brian. Thank you for helping us take care of the boys teeth. We couldn’t ask for a more caring dentist.

We met Dr. Sanders about 12 or 13 years ago when my now 16-year-old son began to see a dentist on a regular basis. At the time, we thought Dr. Sanders was lots of fun and quite a wonderful dentist, my son was always more than willing to go for regular check-ups.

A few years later I gave birth to my daughter. She was born with a rare condition called PHACE Syndrome. She had substantial medical complications, much of which involved her face, mouth and heart. She required a trach and feeding tube and she did not want anything in or near her mouth! At one of my son’s visits, I mentioned to Dr. Sanders that my daughter’s mouth and face were covered with hemangiomas and he knew exactly what I was talking about! What a relief it was to speak to a doctor that actually knew how complicated my daughter's care would be. Over the next few years, we were able to bring my daughter to see Dr. Sanders for regular dental check-ups; she was not an easy one to get to visit. She went from crying and sitting in my lap to actually being comfortable enough to sit in the exam chair all by herself.

I will be forever grateful to Dr. Sanders for the care he has provided for both of my children and I am especially grateful that because of his kind and patient nature and his willingness to create a fun environment, both of my kids truly enjoy seeing the dentist!
